Counselling in Port Moody, at 220 Brew Street
In person in Suter Brook Village, or online anywhere in British Columbia.
Helps Counselling sees clients in Port Moody at 220 Brew Street, Suite 301, in Suter Brook Village. Come up to the third floor and check in at reception. Sessions run 50 or 80 minutes, in person here or online anywhere in British Columbia on secure video, and you can move between the two as your circumstances change.
Counselling is a working relationship rather than a set of instructions. You bring what is happening; your counsellor helps you make sense of it and build responses that hold up outside the room. Some people come for a handful of sessions about one specific thing. Others work at something for longer. We will be straight with you about which this looks like rather than booking you in indefinitely.
Appointments are available on weekday evenings, Monday to Friday, and at weekends on Saturday and Sunday. If you are not sure which service fits, or which counsellor, the 20-minute consultation is free and is there for exactly that.
What people come in with
Anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, anger, grief and loss, couples and relationship difficulties, family conflict, children and teenagers, chronic health conditions and complex illness, and emotional crisis. Some people arrive knowing exactly what the problem is called. Most do not, and that is not a reason to wait.
EMDR is available in Port Moody and online with Rebecca Helps, who has completed EMDR Basic Training and is a member of EMDR Canada.
The first appointment
The first session is mostly you talking and your counsellor listening and asking. There is nothing to prepare and no form of words you are supposed to arrive with. By the end of it you should have some sense of what the two of you would work on and roughly how.
If the fit is not right, say so. Research keeps finding that the relationship between client and counsellor predicts the outcome more reliably than the particular method used, so a poor fit is worth naming early rather than pushing through. A good counsellor will help you find someone else, here or elsewhere.

What you can expect from us
Registered, not self-declared: Rebecca Helps is a Master Therapeutic Counsellor registered with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada, which requires supervised clinical hours, ongoing professional development and a published code of ethics. Confidential: what you say in the room stays in the room, within the limits the law places on every counsellor in British Columbia. Those limits are explained to you at the start, not buried.
A free first conversation: the 20-minute consultation costs nothing and carries no obligation to book anything afterwards.
Individual Counselling
Our Individual Counselling sessions provide personalized, ongoing support tailored to your unique needs. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or other long-term challenges, our experienced counsellors are here to help you navigate these difficult emotions and situations.
These sessions begin with a comprehensive assessment where we take the time to understand your background, including your family history, current stressors, and emotional state. Together, we explore past and present relationships, addictions, and trauma, laying the foundation for effective, multi-session counselling designed to identify and resolve root issues.
Through ongoing sessions, we work with you to create lasting change, equipping you with the tools and support needed to overcome challenges and improve your overall well-being.
Couple Counselling
Are you struggling to connect with your partner? Do you find yourselves facing a myriad of issues with no clear solutions in sight? You’re not alone, and you’ve come to the right place for support.
Couple therapy is designed to help you and your partner navigate the complexities of your relationship. The most common challenges couples face often stem from frustration with each other’s behaviours. It’s easy to believe that if certain behaviours changed—whether it’s picking up socks, doing the dishes, working less, or communicating more—the problems would be solved. However, behaviour changes alone are often temporary because they don’t address the root cause of the issue.
In our couple therapy sessions, we go beyond surface-level problems to explore the underlying dynamics of your relationship. You and your partner will gain insights into your own and each other’s defence mechanisms and how these patterns contribute to the breakdown in communication and connection.
Our sessions provide a safe space to rebuild trust, improve communication, and foster a deeper understanding of one another. Whether you’re facing ongoing conflict or simply want to strengthen your relationship, our goal is to help you create lasting change and a more fulfilling partnership.
Child and Youth Counselling
Children and teens face unique challenges as they grow and navigate an increasingly complex world. Our Child and Youth Counselling services provide a safe, supportive space where young people can express their thoughts and feelings, develop coping skills, and work through any difficulties they may be experiencing.
Our experienced therapists specialize in working with children and adolescents, using age-appropriate techniques such as play therapy, expressive arts, and talk therapy to connect with them on their level. Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, depression, school-related stress, behavioural issues, or social challenges, we tailor our approach to meet their individual needs.
In our sessions, your child will learn valuable tools for managing emotions, improving communication, and building resilience. We also collaborate with parents to ensure that the support extends beyond the counselling room and into everyday life.
Book a session today to help your child or teen build a strong foundation for emotional well-being and personal growth.
