I want my clients to know they are not alone in their struggles. Part of what makes me a good counsellor is that I’ve gone through the journey myself—anger, trauma, anxiety, depression, and feeling like I was out of place with the people around me. I had careers I didn’t enjoy very much, relationships that went stale, and this loneliness that just wouldn’t go away.
My life was about logic, spreadsheets and data and had little to no human connection. I was stuck, and my life was going nowhere until I realized I needed to help, and my heart got involved. Now, I use my past practical skills and unearthed empathy and compassion to help my clients. I’m adaptable and flexible; I thread and weave many modalities into my approach. My clients know that we can always try something different if we hit a plateau in our sessions.
I work with individuals, couples, youth, and children. Our sessions differ depending on who I’m working with and what the needs are. In general, we begin the first session with an assessment of current issues, history, lifestyle, and ultimately—what my clients want to achieve in therapy. From then on, we spend each session diving into their presenting issues.
When I’m not counselling, you will find me walking my dog George (a standard poodle), canoeing, hanging out at home, camping in the beautiful BC mountains, or working on my newest hobby, kayaking.
